Where were YOU in 1976?
Helping you share and preserve your memories of America's Bicentennial

Release Date: July 1, 2025
Hi, and welcome to Bicentennial Memory Project!
Our goal here at Bicentennial Memory Project is to help you get comfortable telling, sharing and preserving your stories — the ones you’ve already made, the ones you’re busy making right now and the ones you’ll be making in the future.
And we’re using memories from 1976 to do it!
Why?
Well, because the Bicentennial was historic!
If you know you know, right? The tall ships, the wagon train, the nifty quarters and stamps, the fireworks over every body of water, Uncle Walt’s nightly Bicentennial Minutes. The food, the clothing, the style.
And even though 1976 was fifty years ago — take a minute if you need to process that — a lot of us remember it fondly. There are an incredible 124 million Americans who have memories of the Bicentennial — including the two of us.
We’re Denyse and Lori, and folks our age are in the sweet spot of wanting to tell, share and preserve our stories.
But a lot of us don’t know how.
As family historians, we do. We have the tools, the skills and the passion to help you get comfortable mining memories, telling stories and preserving them for future generations.
And we promise, we’ll make it fun.
So, come on in, get comfortable and let’s share some great Bicentennial memories!
What to Expect
As a free subscriber to Bicentennial Memory Project, each week you’ll receive real stories of America’s bicentennial year written and shared by folks just like you who remember the pageantry, parades and patriotism, but also the hip-huggers, jello salads, lyrics and far out vibes of that incredible moment in time.
And you’ll be able to add your own stories to the collection, even if you don’t think of yourself as a writer.
Throughout the year, we’ll share prompts, tips and tricks that will help you easily capture your own memories and preserve them for yourself and future generations.
How to share your Bicentennial stories
With each weekly prompt, you’ll have the opportunity to share your Bicentennial stories in the comments section. It’s a great place to get to know one another, riff on a specific topic, gain writing confidence and get nostalgic.
If your story is longer, we’ve got you covered, too. Several times each month, we’ll share those bigger memories with the group. Reach out in a direct chat and we’ll send you more info.
We’re excited to have you join us at Bicentennial Memory Project, where nostalgia is encouraged, stories are told and history — your history — is preserved.
Bicentennial Memory Project is a private, nonpartisan grassroots newsletter dedicated to helping Americans tell, share and preserve their stories.
What a great project! Congrats! I’ll have to give it some thought.
Oh, hang on now... I think I've got an idea of a story to share... 😉
